Recent Calls - Bennington Police Log

December 1st

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 02:30 a.m. police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road in the area of the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Investigation revealed that Patrick Sanders, 44, of Bennington, was driving his vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Truck, when he lost control and skidded into a ditch. It is believed he loss control due to entering a sharp corner and loosing control causing him to slide into the ditch. He was not injured. Vehicle sustained minor damage.

ARREST: At 2:35 p.m. police arrested Shawn Lagasse, 21, of Bennington charging him with Reckless Driving. He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a January 14th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

ARREST: At 08:30 police arrested Jason Byam, 29, of Bennington charging him with Simple Assault. He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a January 14th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

LITTERING: Police received a report from a Balch Farm Road resident regarding someone taking down “No Hunting” signs and throwing them into his driveway.

CIVIL: Police received a report regarding someone not paying rent at the Mountain Side Condos. He was referred to the appropriate person/agency.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown Police with a call for service involving erratic operation on State Route 47.


December 2nd

JUVENILE: Police responded to an Acre Street resident for a report of an out-of-control juvenile. Police were able to get the juvenile under control; however, she had to be transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

ROAD HAZARD: Police found a road ( Old Stagecoach Road) blocked due to a fallen tree. The appropriate person was contacted and the tree was removed.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the State Police with a motor vehicle accident on Greenfield Road in Greenfield.


December 3rd

JUVENILE: Police responded to a State Route 202 residence for a report of an out-of-control juvenile. Investigation revealed she was upset because the family dog killed her ferret. She was able to calm down without further incident.

ARREST: At 8:15 p.m. after an investigation regarding a family dispute police arrested Paula Brissette, 35, of Bennington and Karl Anderson, 38, also of Bennington charging them with Criminal Trespassing. Both were released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a February 11th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

BAD CHECK: Police began investigating a report of a bad check being passed at Harris’ Mini Mart.

ANIMAL: Police received a call from a South Bennington road regarding her neighbor’s pit bull coming into her house.

MOTORIST ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist after he got his truck stuck across State Route 202.

MOTORIST ASSIST: Police received a report of a moving truck being in the roadway on Francestown Road. Due to the snowy conditions the truck was moved.


December 4 th

ARREST: At 4:50 p.m. police arrested Caleb Koivula, 19, of Bennington on a bench warrant for Failure to Appear. He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail with a new court date of January 14th in Hillsborough District Court.

ARREST: At 10:15 p.m. after making a motor vehicle stop police arrested Laura Burgoyne, 41, of Antrim charging her with Driving after Suspension. She was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a January 14th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

ARREST: At 1:40 p.m. police arrested Kara Urban, 19, of Hillsborough charging her with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Driving After Suspension. She was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a January 14th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

ARREST: At 1:45 p.m. police arrested Jeffrey Jenks, 27, of Hillsborough charging him with Prohibitive Sales and Allowing an Improper Person to Drive. He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a January 14th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

THEFT: Police received a report regarding a theft of a snowboard from Crotched Mountain Ski Area. After a search the board was located.


December 5th

ABANDONED VEHICLE: At 06:15 a.m. police investigated a report of an abandoned vehicle in the roadway on Gillis Hill Road. Investigation revealed that William Elliott III, 23, of Bennington slid off the roadway in the middle of the night and left his car in he roadway. He was issued a summons.

THEFT: At 8:00 p.m. police took a report of a theft of a snowboard from Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

ANIMAL: Police took custody of a black lab which a resident found running at large. Police could not find out who the owner was; therefore, the dog was taken to the local farm.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call on Old Greenfield Road.


December 6th

HARASSMENT: At 09:00 a.m. police took a report from a Starrett Road resident stating she was being harassed by her neighbor. Police spoke to all parties and calmed the situation for the moment.

ABANDONED VEHICLE: At 4:00 p.m. police received a report of an abandoned vehicle on a trail located off Old Stagecoach Road. The vehicle was located and removed. Investigation continues in attempting to locate the last known owner.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

CITIZEN CONCERN: Police received a report from a State Route 202 resident regarding her field of view being blocked by political signs.


December 7th

ARREST: At 1:15 p.m. police arrested Scott Burnett, 39, of Hancock charging him with Issuing Bad Checks. He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a January 14th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

ARREST: At 3:30 p.m. police started investigating a report of Child Neglect/Abuse. During the investigation police arrested a Jessica Caselely, 24, of Bradford charging her with having three Bench Warrants. She was not part of the initial investigation; however, she was visiting the person under investigation. She was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail on each warrant and given a January 7th court date in Concord District Court.

JUVENILE: Police intervened in a report of child out-of-control at the local elementary school. The student was calmed down without any further incident.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call to the Monadnock Paper Mill.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Hancock Police with a call for service involving a combative person on Cavender Road.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Police received a call from a Dodge Hill Road resident regarding footprints being found around her house.


December 8th

CRIMINAL THREATENING: At 11:00 a.m. police took a report of criminal threatening involving three juveniles who were at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Fire Department at the scene of a house fire on Mountain Road.

THEFT: Police received a report of theft involving a motorist driving off without paying for gas.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


December 10th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown Police with a motor vehicle stop involving a disorderly person.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with a motor vehicle stop involving a disorderly person.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with a call for service involving a suspicious person at a local club.


December 11th

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of an Antrim Road resident and her children. Everyone was found to be doing fine.

THEFT: Police took a report of theft involving theft of checks and cash. Investigation continues.


December 12th

JUVENILE: Police intervened in a report of a disorderly child at the school. The student calmed down without further incident.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medial call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


December 13th

DISPUTE: Police received a call involving Onset Road neighbors who were having a dispute over snow plowing.


December 14th

ARREST: After making a motor vehicle stop police arrested the operator for driving after suspension on a State Road.

ARREST: After making a motor vehicle stop police arrested the driver charging him with Driving While Intoxicated.


December 15th

THEFT: Police took a report of a theft of a motor vehicle from Antrim Road. After investigation police found it to be more of a domestic dispute.


December 17th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with traffic at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on State Route 202.

ANIMAL: Police had a cat turned over to them which was stray. The owner could not be identified; therefore, the cat was taken to the local farm.

THEFT: Police took a report of a theft involving a can of gas being taken from a truck on North Bennington Road.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call at a State Route 202 residence.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police responded to a motor vehicle accident. Investigation revealed the operator lost control of her Jeep due to snowy conditions. The vehicle struck a tree and was considered a total loss.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of two stray dogs on State Route 202. The dogs were gone by time police arrived.

E911: Police received an Emergency 911 call from a South Bennington Road resident. Investigation revealed it was accidental due to a child playing with the phone.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police responded to State Route 202 for a motor vehicle accident. Investigation revealed that the driver loss control and slid off the road hitting a snowbank.


December 18th

THEFT: At 8:45 p.m. police took a theft report involving skis and poles from Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call at a Dodge Road residence.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with an arrest on a person who had a bench warrant.


December 19th

ARREST: At 9:00 a.m. police arrested Sherry Liles, 38, of Hillsborough on a civil warrant for Failure to Pay Child Support. She was released after posting $300 cash bail.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 5:00 p.m. police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road. Investigation revealed a motorist lost a tire. Motorist was assisted.

TRESPASSING: At 6:20 p.m. police received a report of a snowmobile trespassing onto private property on Birch Glen Drive. Police were unable to locate the snowmobile.

CIVIL: At 9:55 p.m. police received reports of harassment files by an ex-wife and husband. Both were advised to contact their attorney. Parties were also advised that the complaints would be documented.

THEFT: At 4:00 p.m. police took a report of a vehicle theft. The report also stated the vehicle was involved in an accident. Investigation revealed the person had permission to take the vehicle. It was determined to be more of a dispute between ex’s. No further action is pending.


December 20th

ARREST: At 7:00 p.m. after investigating a report of a theft of a snowboard from Crotched Mountain Ski Area police arrested a juvenile. The juvenile was released to a parent. A petition will be filed and the case will be heard in Hillsborough District Juvenile Court.

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a Dodge Road resident. He was found to be doing fine.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road. Investigation revealed that the driver loss control due to road conditions and got stuck in a snowbank.


December 22nd

THREAT: At 10:00 pm. police received a report from a Mountain Side Condo resident saying he was threatening by another tenant. Investigation continues.

ARREST: At 2:30 p.m. police arrested Nicole Minehart, 17, of Francestown charging her with Abandoning a Vehicle. She was released on $500 personal recognizance bail pending a February 11th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

ARREST: At 9:15 p.m. police arrested Michael Dionne, 51, of Bennington charging him with Illegal Possession of a Controlled Drug (marijuana). He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a February 11th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


December 23rd

INVESTIGATION: At 10:45 p.m. police received a report of a disabled vehicle on Gillis Hill Road. Report lead to an investigation of Illegal Transportation of Alcohol. Investigation continues.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Pierce Hill Road. The vehicle was gone by time police arrived.


December 24th

INVESTIGATION: At 11:00 a.m. police received a report of an abandoned vehicle at the Ski Area. Investigation revealed it belonged to a former employee. Ski management requested it not be towed until they had a chance to contact the owner.


December 25th

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Police received a report of a number of mailboxes being damaged on Merrill Drive. Investigation continues.


December 26th

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: At 7:30 p.m. police took a report of criminal mischief involving damage done to a mailbox on Merrill Drive.

GAS DRIVE OFF: At 10:00 a.m. police took a report of a gas drive off from Rymes. It is believe to have been accidental. The driver of the vehicle will take care of the cost of the gas.

LITTERING: At 7:30 p.m. police received a report of littering at the ski area. The littering involved someone throwing numerous beer cans into the parking lot. No person or vehicle was located.

OHRV: Police received a report of a snowmobile driving on the Crotched Mountain Ski Area trails after closing. Police did not find the operator.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Police received a report of suspicious thing happening at a residence located on Dodge Hill Road. Investigation continues.


December 27th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 4:30 p.m. police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road. Mandy Rajaniemi, 32, of Bennington lost control of her vehicle, a 2006 Ford Van, on the snowy roadway. She crossed the center of the roadway which caused her vehicle to strike a vehicle, a 1997 Dodge Truck, being driven by Kevin Magoon, 55, of Bennington. There were no injuries. Rajaniemi’s vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

GAS DRIVE OFF: At 11:00 a.m. police received a report of a gas drive off from Harris’ Mini Mart. Police located the driver and determined it was accidental. She returned to the store and paid for the gas.

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a resident who lives on Durgin Road. She was found to be doing fine.

MOTOR VEHICLE: Police responded to a total of six motor vehicles which skidded off the roadway due to snowy weather conditions.

DISABLE VEHICLE: Police received a report of an abandoned/disabled vehicle on Francestown Road. The vehicle was towed.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a dog constantly howling/barking. The dog was located at a State Route 202 residence.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with a motor vehicle accident on State Route 202.


December 28th

MOTORIST ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist who locked his keys in his vehicle.

CITIZEN ASSIST: Police assisted a resident in providing her daughter a ride because she was stranded and had no way of getting home.


December 29th

E911: At 8:00 p.m. police received an Emergency 911 call from the elevator at Crotched Mountain Ski Area. It was determined to have been accidental.

CIVIL: Police were requested to assist a person in getting his ex-wife to repay money owed. He was advised that it was a civil matter.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with a motor vehicle stop on West Main Street.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown Police with an arrest on Francestown Road.


December 30th

THEFT: At 10:00 p.m. police took a report of theft of skis from Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 5:30 p.m. police responded to State Route 202 for a motor vehicle accident. Investigation revealed that Matthew Mueller, 16, of Massachusetts was driving a 1986 Ford when his vehicle was struck from behind by David Barsky, 53, of Amherst, who was driving a 1998 Chevy. Mueller was turning into Harris’ Mini Mart when his vehicle was struck. There was moderate damage done to both vehicles; however, there were no injuries.


December 31st

ARRESTS: At 10:00 a.m. police took two juveniles into custody after running away from Orion House out of Newport. Both juveniles were turned back over to staff personnel. One juvenile is from Bennington and the second is from Hillsborough.

JUVENILE: Police received a report of three juveniles hanging out at the ski area. They were reportedly being disorderly. A parent was contacted to pick up the juveniles.

ALCOHOL: Two people were evicted from the ski area for bringing in alcohol and then drinking it in an authorized area.

CITIZEN ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist who got stuck, due to snowy road conditions, on State Route 202.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police took a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a truck skidding into a town plow truck. The plow truck did not receive any damage; however, the subject vehicle received moderate damage to driver’s side of his vehicle.
