Recent Calls - Bennington Police Log

January 1st

ARREST: Police arrested Robert St. John of Francestown charging him with Driving While Intoxicated. He was released on personal recognizance bail pending a March court date in Henniker District Court.

MISSING JUVENILE: Police received a report of a missing juvenile from Greenfield. He was located and the parents were notified. The child was returned home without any further issues.

DISPUTE: Police intervened in a dispute between two neighbors on Mountain Road. The dispute was over work being done close to property line.

INVESTIGATE: Police received a report of wires down on Acre Street. Investigation revealed that workers removing snow accidentally snagged the wires.


January 2nd

DOMESTIC: Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Cross Street. The investigation revealed it was a verbal dispute between boyfriend and girlfriend.

ARREST: Police arrested Brian Starr on a warrant from Townsend Massachusetts. He was transported to court where he was picked up by the Townsend Mass. Police department.


January 3rd

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue with a medical call at a State Route 202 residence.

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a State Route 202 residence. The request was made by a service agency due to volatile nature of the resident.


January 4th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

INVESTIGATE: Police responded to a North Bennington Road residence for a report of a teenager threatening suicide. The individual was transported to the hospital.


January 5th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue with a medical call on Main Street.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue with a medical call at a State Route 202 residence.


January 6th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog on State Route 202. They were unable to locate the dog.


January 7th

ARREST: Police arrested two juveniles charging them with theft of a snowboard. They were released to a parent. Their case will be heard in Henniker Juvenile Court.

ARREST: Police arrested Michael Chase of Francestown on a Parole Violation warrant. He was transported to Hillsborough County House of Corrections.


January 8th

ARREST: Police arrested Chris Burnham of Francestown Road in Bennington on a warrant from Henniker. He was released on personal recognizance bail pending a court date in Henniker District Court.


January 9th

INVESTIGATION: Police received a report of a sign blocking school buses. Investigation revealed that workers place a sign in a manner which prevented school buses from safely entering the school. The sign was moved.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue with a medical call on Mountain Road.

ARREST: Police arrested Wendy Dunlap, of Bennington, charging her with Criminal Liability for the Conduct of Another. She was released on personal recognizance bail pending a court date in Hillsborough District Court.

DOMESTIC: Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Birch Drive. The disturbance was between father and daughter. There was a report of an assault; however, at this time the investigation continues.


January 10th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

THEFT: Police received a report of a theft of a sign from a local business. The sign was later recovered.


January 11th

ILLEGAL DUMPING: Police began investigating a report of Illegal Dumping on South Bennington Road. In addition to trash, household items such as a couch, was also left on the roadside. Police have identified the person responsible. Investigation continues.


January 12th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown Police with a motor vehicle stop on Francestown Road.

INVESTIGATION: Police began an investigation involving Illegal Transportation of Alcohol and Illegal Possession of Alcohol.


January 13th

THEFT: At 9:15 a.m. police received a report of theft involving a construction vehicle – “Cat Skid Steer”. The vehicle (similar to a bobcat) is used to plow snow at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Investigation continues.


January 15th

OHRV: At 12:30 police spoke to an individual who had his snowmobile in the roadway on Acre Street.

CIVIL: At 2:20 p.m. police were requested to assist in a custody issue between an ex-wife and ex-husband.

ASSIST: At 2:40 p.m. police were requested to assist in retrieving license plates off a vehicle. The plates were removed and returned to the owner.


January 16th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 7:00 a.m. police responded to Antrim Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle. Casey Cook, 26, of Antrim was driving a vehicle, a 1997 Chrysler, when he struck a pedestrian, Clifford Gates, 42, of Washington. Gates was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital with left side injuries. Investigation continues as to the cause.

CITIZEN ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist after he locked his keys in his vehicle while getting gas at Rymes.


January 17th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 7:30 police responded to Onset Road for a report of a dog being struck by a motorist. Investigation revealed that a driver, Austin Cottle, 22, of Antrim struck a dog which was walking with its owner; however, not on a leash. The dog did not survive.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog on Old Greenfield Road. Police spoke to the owner.

MUTUAL AID: Police had two calls to assist the Antrim Ambulance with medical calls at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


January 18th

MOTOR VEHICLE: At 8:10 a.m. police responded to Greenfield for a report of a motor vehicle off the roadway. Investigation revealed the operator slid off the road due to icy road conditions. The vehicle was pulled out of the snow bank by a motorist. There was no damage and the operator drove from the scene.

MOTOR VEHICLE: At 8:25 a.m. police received a report of a vehicle off the roadway on Greenfield Road. Police found where a vehicle went off the road; however, it was gone upon arrival of the police.

ALARM: At 11:30 police responded to a Greenfield Road residence for a report of an alarm. Investigation revealed an employee accidentally set off the alarm.

MOTOR VEHICLE: At 12:00 police received a report of a motorist driving on South Bennington Road in a manner that the operator was driving through water holes and splashing pedestrians. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

THEFT: At 6:00 p.m. police received a report of involving a break in and theft of beer from Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Investigation revealed three juveniles were involved in the incident. They were released to parents. The case will probably be heard in juvenile court; however, at this time the investigation continues.

FIREWORKS: At 9:15 police responded to the ski area for a report of fireworks landing close to the chair lift. Police made sure the situation was safe. There were no further incidents or reports.

THEFT: At 11:55 p.m. police took a report of theft of a snowboard from Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

INVESTIGATION: Police received a report of a motorist splashing pedestrians as they worked and walked on South Bennington Road. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.


January 19th

MOTORIST ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist at the ski area in unlocking her car after she locked her keys in her vehicle.


January 20th

CIVIL: At 10:30 a.m. police were requested to do a civil standby while a mother picked up a daughter from her father. The standby occurred without incident.

THEFT: At 1:00 p.m. police took a report of a theft involving dinner trays from Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Police have a suspect; however, at this time the investigation continues.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON: At 8:20 p.m. police received a report of a suspicious person of Gillis Hill Road. Police were unable to locate anyone.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog on Gillis Hill Road. The dogs ran as police approached; therefore, were not caught.

CITIZEN ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist on State Route 202 due to mechanical problems.


January 21st

ARREST: At 6:15 p.m. after investigation police arrested two juveniles charging them with theft of alcohol from the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. The juveniles were released to a parent. There case will be handled in Henniker Juvenile Court.

ANIMAL: Police received a complaint from a resident on Durgin Road regarding a stray dog being on his property. Police spoke to the owner of the dog.


January 22nd

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


January 23rd

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with a call involving a burglar who would not come out of a building.


January 24th

BAD CHECK: At 11:30 a.m. police received a bad check from Harris’ Mini Mart. Police are familiar with the person passing the check. She has passed bad checks in the past; therefore, a warrant will be issued charging her with Issuing Bad Checks.

CHECK WELFARE: At 2:00 p.m. police were requested to check the welfare of a Dodge Road resident. He requested a ride from Red Cross; however, was not answering his door. He was found to be doing fine.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown police with a motor vehicle stop on Francestown Road.


January 25th

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog on Pierce Hill Road. Police did not locate the animal.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


January 26th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS: At 6:45 p.m. police responded to Francestown Road for a report of two vehicles which struck a large rock in the roadway. One vehicle, a 1996 Pontiac, driven by Kyle Koban, 18, of Antrim sustained damage to a front tire and rim. A second vehicle, a 2004 Chevy Van, driven by Lori Joseph, 20, of Francestown sustained damage to passenger side tires and rim. There were no injuries.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with two medical call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with an underage drinking party at a Matthewson Road residence.


January 27th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: At 11:30 a.m. police responded to Onset Road for a report of an accident. Investigation revealed that Susan Smiley, 54, of Seaside Park, NJ last control of her vehicle due to road conditions and causing her vehicle, a 2002 Hyundai, to slid into a ditch. The vehicle sustained damage to left front corner, side panel and bumper. She was not injured.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with two medical calls at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

THEFT: Police took a report of theft of skies from Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON: Police investigated a report of a suspicious person on School Street. They did not find anyone.

CITIZEN ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist at the Ski Area after he locked his keys in his vehicle.

JUVENILE: Police responded to a South Bennington Road residence for a report of an out-of-control juvenile. Police were able to get the juvenile calmed down and cleared without further incident.

CITIZEN ASSIST: Police assisted a motorist as Harris’ Mini Mart after she locked her keys in her vehicle.


January 28th

JUVENILE: At 7:00 p.m. police responded to a South Bennington Road residence for an out-of-control juvenile. The juvenile was being disciplined; however, did not like it. The police spoke to the juvenile until he calmed down. There were no further reports.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog at the Bennington Country Store. Police could not catch the dog.

ALARM: Police responded to a residential alarm on Greenfield Road. It was determined to have been accidental.


January 29th

INVESTIGATE: Police began investigating a report of a bad check being passed at Harris’ Mini Mart.

INVESTIGATE: Police received a report of an underage gathering involving – sex, drugs and alcohol. Investigation continues.

ARREST: Police arrested Christina Emond charging on a warrant from Hancock and a warrant from Bennington charging her with Violation of Bail Conditions. She was released on personal recognizance bail pending a March court date in Hillsborough District Court.

CIVIL: Police mediated a dispute between a mother and son. The incident was calmed down without further incident.


January 31st

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Main Street. Investigation revealed the driver backed over a retaining wall causing her vehicle to roll over onto its top.
