Recent Calls - Bennington Police Log

 

February 1st

ARREST: Police arrested Ryan Kottke, 17, of Fitzwillian charging him with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property. These charges stemmed from a stolen snowboard from Crotched Mountain Ski Area. He was released on $1000 personal recognizance bail pending a March 12 th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a Pine Meadows Circle residence while personal property was picked up.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


February 2nd

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a Main Street residence. It was discovered that he was in the hospital.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Greenfield Police with a motor vehicle accident on Greenfield Road.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown Police with a motor vehicle complaint on East Road.


February 3rd

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Police took a report of Criminal Mischief involving damage to a mailbox on North Bennington Road. Police have the identity of the person causing the damage; however, at this time the investigation continues.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Fire Department with a fire alarm call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


February 4th

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a State Route 202 residence while personal property was returned.


February 7th

ARREST: Police assisted the Antrim Police with an arrest by getting the person to turn themselves in to the Bennington Police. The arrest was on an arrest warrant from Antrim Police.


February 8th

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a Pine Meadows Circle residence so personal property could be picked up.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a dog running at large on Pine Meadows Circle. Police spoke to the owner of the dog.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a dog running at large on South Bennington Road. Police spoke to the owner of the dog.


February 9th

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog on North Bennington Road. It was picked up and returned to its owner.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


February 10th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road. Investigation revealed a vehicle, a 1995 Subaru, being driven by Ralph Sweet, 75, of Bennington failed to yield when pulling out of a parking area. His vehicle struck a vehicle, a 2002 Chevy, being driven by Christopher Kavenagh, 31, of Bennington. There were no injuries and both vehicles sustained minor damage.

E911: Police responded to an Emergency 911 call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area. No problems were found.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call on Francestown Road.


February 11th

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Police took a report of criminal mischief involving damage done to a mailbox. The incident occurred on North Bennington Road.

LOUD MUSIC: Police received a report of loud music from the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Police did not find the source of the music.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a dog constantly barking. The dog belongs to a Bible Hill Road resident. The owner was spoken to.


February 12th

LOUD MUSIC: Police received a report from a Francestown resident regarding loud music coming from the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Investigation continues.

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a Dodge Road resident regarding not having any heat. The resident did get some assistance from the appropriate agencies.

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a Dodge Hill Road resident. She was found to being doing fine.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a dog barking. The owner who lives on Bible Hill Road was spoken to.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Greenfield Police with an arrest on Old Greenfield Road.

DISORDERLY: Police responded to the Crotched Mountain Ski Area for an out-of-control person. Everything was calmed down without incident.


February 13th

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a Dodge Road resident. He was found to be alright; however, a family member was contacted who will assist with a heat problem.

ANIMAL: Police received a report from a Pine Meadows Circle resident regarding dead chickens. Investigation revealed that at least two chickens were killed and one injured. It appears some type of animal killed them. The resident also reported a number of missing chickens.

ASSAULT: Police took a report of assault involving two sisters. The sisters, one a juvenile, was driving on State Route 202 when the altercation took place. Investigation continues.

CHECK WELFARE: Police were requested to check the welfare of a Dodge Hill Road resident. The person was found to be doing fine.


February 14th

E911: Police responded to an emergency 911 call coming from the elevator at the ski area. No problems were found. It is believed someone was playing with the emergency button on the elevator.

PLOWING DISPUTE: Police took a report from a Starrett Road resident regarding snow being plowed into the roadway.

MAILBOX DAMAGE: Police took a report from Joe Goldspring of Pierce Hill Road regarding damage done to his mailbox. Reportedly the damage was caused by the town plow truck. The town officials have been made aware of the damage.


February 15th

VEHICLE OFF ROADWAY: Police responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on Francestown Road. Investigation revealed a motorist lost control of her vehicle due to icy/snowy conditions. A passing motorist assisted in pulling her out of the snow bank.

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a Birch Glen Drive resident while a child was picked up. The exchange took place without any issues.

VEHICLE OFF ROADWAY: Police responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on North Bennington Road. Investigation revealed a motorist lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions. The vehicle was towed out of the ditch and driven from the scene.

JUVENILE: Police responded to the Pierce School for an out-of-control student. He was calmed down. The police notified his mother who picked him up. Any follow-up action will be handled by the school.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Police with a call for service involving a barricaded person.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call on Greenfield Road.


February 16th

ARREST: After responding to a report of a domestic disturbance on Francestown Road police arrested Shawn Lawrence, 44 , of Bennington charging him with Simple Assault and Resisting Arrest. He was released on $2500 personal recognizance bail pending a March 12th court date in Hillsborough District Court.

HARASSMENT: Police took a report of harassment from a North Bennington Road resident regarding receiving numerous unwanted phone calls. The calls have been traced. Investigation continues.

THEFT: Police took a report of theft of a snowboard from the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a Pine Meadows Circle residence while personal property was picked up.

LOUD MUSIC: Police received a report of loud music coming from the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Upon arrival police were unable to determine who was playing the music.

ARREST: During patrol police observed a vehicle go by with an occupant who had a warrant for her arrest. Police made the motor vehicle stop and arrested Angela St John, 38, of Hancock charging her with two warrants for failure to appear in court. One warrant was for Issuing Bad Checks in which she was given a $500 personal recognizance bail and the second was for Driving After Suspension in which she posted a $1000 cash bail. She was released pending a March 12th court date in Hillsborough District Court.


February 18th

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a lost dog on Durgin Road. The dog was found and returned to its owner.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Deering Police with an Emergency 911 call on Codman Hill Road.


February 19th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police responded to Main Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Investigation revealed that Richard Guay, 60 , of Berlin was operation a 1997 Mack Truck when he struck a stop sign. The sign was torn from its foundation and the truck sustained a flat tire.


February 20th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Bennington Rescue Department with a medical call at Harris’ Mini Mart. The call was due to a person falling in the parking lot.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Police were unable to locate the dog.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Police received a report of criminal mischief involving damage done to a residence on Gillis Hill Road.


February 21st

ANIMAL: Police received a report of a stray dog (pit bull) on Old Greenfield Road.

ANIMAL: Police received a report of two stray dogs on Greenfield Road. The dogs were returned to their owner.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

CIVIL: Police assisted a subject in retrieving her license plates from an ex-boyfriend.


February 22nd

THEFT: Police began investigating a theft report involving the taking of a check. Police have identified the person responsible; however, at this time the investigation continues.

THEFT: Police took a report of a theft of a snowboard which was taken from Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

CIVIL STANDBY: Police were requested to do a civil standby at a Pine Meadows Circle residence while an ex-tenant picked up some personnel property.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at Crotched Mountain Ski Area.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Hancock Police with a motor vehicle accident on Bennington Road.


February 23rd

HARASSMENT: Police received a report from a Francestown Road resident stating she was being harassed by an ex-boyfriend. Investigation continues.

DRUGS: Police received a call from Crotched Mountain Ski Area reference some drugs believed to be marijuana being found. The drugs were turned over to the police.

ANIMAL: Police received a complaint regarding a Bible Hill Road resident dog barking constantly.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Francestown Police Department with a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road.


February 24th

ARREST: Police arrested Michael Arsenault, 19, of Bennington charging him with theft of a check and for having a bench warrant for Driving Without a Valid License. He was released on the charges with a $1000 personal recognizance bail and a court date of March 12th in Hillsborough District Court. However; because he was on probation he was transported to Valley Street Jail on orders from his probation officer.

CIVIL STANDBY: Police assistance was requested in doing a civil standby at a Francestown Road residence while personal property was picked up.


February 25th

ARREST: After responding to Mountain Side Condos for a report of a domestic disturbance police arrested James Harris, 34, of Bennington charging him with Simple Assault. He was released on $750 personal recognizance bail pending an April 9th court date in Hillsborough District Court.


February 26th

ANIMAL: Police again received another complaint regarding a barking dog on Bible Hill Road. The owner was warned.

BURGLARY: Police began investigating a burglary which occurred at a North Bennington Road residence.


February 27th

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Antrim Ambulance with a medical call at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area.


February 28th

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Francestown Road. Investigation revealed there were no injuries and damage to both vehicles. The cause was due to an operator attempting to pass a vehicle on the left in a no passing zone.

THEFT: Police investigated a report of a theft of a snowboard from the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Police identified a suspect. Investigation continues.

ANIMAL: Police received numerous calls regarding a stray dog on South Bennington Road. Police spoke to the owner.

MUTUAL AID: Police assisted the Hancock Police Department with a Domestic Disturbance call for service.

E911: Police responded to an emergency 911 call on Old Greenfield Road. No problems were found.
